Social Media has become an integral part of many industries. Social media is no longer used just for personal purposes but for businesses as well. Many businesses and entrepreneurs use social media in different ways and for different purposes. This also holds true for music artists and producers. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube are currently being used by most artists in the industry. These platforms have helped artists and producers further their careers in the music industry. Social media also gives artists and producers the platforms to network with others in the industry and to help give them a larger audience for promoting their music. Today it is important for an artist or producer to have their own social media accounts, specifically for promotion of their music because it allows you to advertise your music and build a connection with fans and other industry mates.

Instagram

The platform that I’ve personally enjoyed using is Instagram. I recommend that all artists and producers create an Instagram account. My personal recommendation would be to create an Instagram business account for promoting yourself as an artist and your music. Having a business Instagram account is great because of all the components that come along with it. Instagram business accounts allow you to view analytics that you wouldn’t otherwise see with a normal account. It also can be used to target a specific demographic that will most likely be interested in your music or who look up artists similar to your genre. This will allow your content to pop up on feeds of those similar to yours. Also, advertising on Instagram has the potential to reach and get your work out to thousands of people.

Social Media and Networking

“Your Network is your Net worth.” Social Media allows you to network with those you would otherwise have no connection with. On all your social media platforms you should follow those within your industry and those who work closely with someone you would potentially want to work with in the future. Commenting under posts of other artists and producers allow you to build relationships with them because it allows them to recognize who you are, your name and your work. Don’t just comment with emojis but tell the artist what you like about their music and try to build a connection. Follow up with a DM saying you can’t wait for their next project and that you guys should work together in the future, for example.

Social Media helps all artists to market themselves and build their brand awareness. Not only does social media help build your brand but it builds your network as well. Being smart on social media can help an artist/producer become one of the most notably recognized in the industry just like artists and producers such as, CashMoneyAp, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber have done.

"Having a large following is great, but make sure they are established relationships and not bots. To form relationships on Instagram you can DM them, follow them, can make comments on their posts, just any way to get your name out there. But I do not mean spamming their comment section, leave actual feedback to connect with them."
